Engineering manufacturers: does our sales process match the level of detail given to our manufacturing processes?

We know that if one small tolerance 📐 is off in production, the resulting product is far from satisfactory. A "make-do" attitude doesn't cut it on the shop floor, and it shouldn't for our sales operations either - they are just as vital!
If we continue to apply the same logic to a failing sales process, or to an unsupported team member who is silently struggling, why are we surprised when they yield the same poor results 📉 - or worse?
🧠 Albert Einstein once said: "We cannot solve our problems with the same thinking we used to create them." So, where do we start?
First, we have to commit to being honest 🔍 in our approach and be determined to allow ourselves to be challenged out of our comfort zone 🏃. We can then run an audit against our current sales operations.
Here are some questions to help:
❓ What are we selling? This isn't our product or service offering -
it’s the value it creates.
❓ Who are we selling to? Are we chasing "everyone" or do we have a defined ‘Best Customer Profile’?
❓ How is sales positioned? Is it viewed as a core professional discipline or an afterthought in our organisation?
❓ What is the friction? Can we clearly identify what is working versus what is failing?
❓ What are the aspirations? What are the current specific goals for each area, team, and individual to realise these?
❓ What is our SWOT? Have we mapped the Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats for every area, team, and individual?
Once we have identified the blockages 🚧, we can prioritise what to address and set meaningful goals 🎯.
